It’s viewer’s choice time here at Classic Rewind. So, we asked a few people what Indy car race from the past they’d want to see.
This week’s race comes by request of Kevin Blanch, or “Rocket” as he’s better known in the INDYCAR paddock. Blanch, who is currently the IndyCar Series technical director, chose the 2002 SunTrust Indy Challenge at Richmond Raceway because, he was part of the winning team.
After picking the race, Blanch, who served as chief mechanic for Sam Hornish Jr. and the No. 4 Pennzoil Chevrolet before joining INDYCAR, told us he watched highlights of the race, won by Hornish.
“We ran them down, didn’t we?” he said.
