Classic Rewind continues with its look back at the 1987 Indy car season. This week's fare is appropriate since it is the race 30 years ago from The Milwaukee Mile, not far from where the Verizon IndyCar Series competes this weekend at Road America.

A week after the Indianapolis 500, the 1987 CART season moved north to The Milwaukee Mile for the Miller American 200 in honor of Rex Mays.

Roberto Guerrero, who won on the mile oval at Phoenix from last place earlier in the season and was fresh off a second-place finish in the Indy 500, started from pole at Milwaukee and led the first 50 laps. Michael and Mario Andretti took turns leading the race, but Guerrero appeared to have the dominant car until the midway point, when Mario Andretti took control. 

The elder Andretti, though, hit the wall while leading, setting up a duel between Guerrero and Michael Andretti over the final 50 laps. Guerrero's engine failed with 22 laps to go, handing the lead to Michael Andretti. Bobby Rahal closed in the final laps, but Michael Andretti claimed his first win of the season to give him a four-point lead over his dad in the point standings.
