We're ringing in 2017 a few days early with Dario Franchitti's first Indianapolis 500 win from 2007.
Happy New Year from your friends here at Classic Rewind HQ. We're ringing in 2017 a few days early with another trip in the Wayback Machine for a vintage Indy car race. Today, it's the 2007 Indianapolis 500.
The 91st running of "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" was rain affected. Just past the halfway mark, rain halted the race with Tony Kanaan in front. After a nearly three-hour delay, the race resumed, but Kanaan's teammate Dario Franchitti had a tire puncture that forced him off pit sequence. The puncture was lucky, though, as Franchitti found himself in front when Dan Wheldon and Marco Andretti tangled on the backstretch with 38 laps to go. As the race slowed under caution, the rains came again and Franchitti was declared the winner, the first of his three Indy 500 wins.
For next week's poll, we go back to 2002, and did we find some great races for you to choose from.
