"Like the first love, you never forget the first win!" Alex Zanardi claims of his first Indy car win in the Budweiser/G.I. Joe's 200 at Portland in 1996.
There are some inevitable conclusions made from Classic Rewind voting.
A. Indianapolis 500s always win the fan vote; B. If you don't have a 500 to vote for, a win by Alex Zanardi will win.
Such is the case this week as Zanardi, who recently won three paralympic medals in handcycling in Rio, then claimed an Italian GT win last weekend in his return to motor racing, also claimed this week's fan vote as you've selected his first Indy car win at Portland in 1996
"Portland is a permanent road course built in a beautiful state, which is for me a fantastic area for many reasons," Zanardi said of Portland in an interview in 2004. "The downside is that the weather is so unpredictable that it's not uncommon to start the race on the dry and end with the rain as it happened to me in 1996 when I won my first Champ Car race.
"Obviously my feelings for Portland are quite special because that's where I obtained one of my greatest career satisfactions; like the first love, you never forget the first win!"
There's no poll for next week's race, but check back next week, as we have a special "Trick-Or-Treat" race in store.
