He may not have had the finish he wanted in the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil, but Conor Daly mare sure he and the audience enjoyed his time on stage at the Victory Celebration the following evening.
Taking cues from Pat McAfee -- his friend, NFL punter, team sponsor and emerging comedian -- Daly left 'em laughing during his self-deprecating conversation with host Dave Calabro. Did Daly, who finished 29th at the Indy 500 after crashing out, receive any comedic tips from McAfee?
“No, we didn’t even talk at all that day," Daly said. "I think he was still in recovery from the previous day. I just winged it. I never write down anything, just try to go with the flow.”
Several other Indy 500 drivers referred to Daly's comments throughout the evening, including his friend James Hinchcliffe. Daly has been living rent-free at Hinchcliffe's Indianapolis home, but the "Mayor" threatened those days may be coming to an end.
Asked at this weekend's Chevrolet Dual in Detroit if Hinchcliffe has demanded the rent money, Daly replied, “No, we have a special deal. It’s not written out and no one knows about it. Neither do we, but it works. I believe we’ll be back in the house after Detroit.”
