PREMA Racing revealed Sept. 11 that its car numbers for its first NTT INDYCAR SERIES season will be 83 and 90.
Those numbers have special significance for PREMA. The team was founded in 1983 by Angelo Rosin and made its Italian Formula 3 debut the following year. PREMA earned its first championship in 1990, as Roberto Colciago beat Alex Zanardi and Max Angelelli to the Italian Formula 3 title.
PREMA will make the jump to North America’s premier open-wheel championship next year, fielding two full-time entries in partnership with Chevrolet and making a historic debut in the Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge. The team has won nearly 600 races in its illustrious history of competition in various national and global series.
With its dedicated approach to young drivers, PREMA produced talents like Formula One World Champion and Indy 500 winner Jacques Villeneuve and INDYCAR SERIES racers like Ryan Briscoe, Felix Rosenqvist, Marcus Armstrong and Callum Ilott. PREMA also has been home to nine of the 2024 Formula One drivers, including Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly.
No drivers have been named yet for the two-car PREMA operation, based in a state-of-the-art factory in Indiana.
