The past week focused on feasting and football, it seems. So we followed that theme.
Thanksgiving, INDYCAR-style
The INDYCAR community took time to be thankful for all the blessings of the past year and to partake in some of the more traditional celebrations surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday in America.
Even the cartoon version of Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe got into the spirit by inviting fellow cartoon Verizon IndyCar Series drivers over for dinner.
It didn’t go unnoticed that there was a reserved seat at the kids’ table for a particular driver.
Carving up the competition
Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud, from France, also fully embraced the American holiday but appeared a little too keen about the traditional carving of the turkey.
Thanksgiving hangover cures
The post-Thanksgiving after-effects were varied. Charlie Kimball and his family chose to #OptOutside at Indianapolis’ Fort Harrison State Park in support of the Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources’ free admission offer to any state park, reservoir or state forest recreation area.
Based on Spencer Pigot’s Instagram post, he opted to enjoy fully enjoy the leftovers along with memories of a successful race at Iowa Speedway for Ed Carpenter Racing.
Pigskin, pigskin and more pigskin
Several INDYCAR drivers opted to enjoy another Thanksgiving tradition: football!
New Era hosted Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie drivers Colton Herta and Patricio O’Ward, along with their driver coach Al Unser Jr., at the Buffalo Bills game, where they met up with legendary Bills quarterback Jim Kelly.
Herta took in the whole Buffalo tailgating experience with the “Bills Mafia.”
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports sponsor Arrow Electronics played host to driver Robert Wickens and his fiancée, Karli Woods, at a Broncos game in Denver.
And, of course, Graham Rahal lent his unwavering and vocal support to his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes from afar for their annual rivalry game with Michigan.
Rahal eventually made it off the couch from his home and to the Los Angeles Coliseum with friends and family to watch unbeaten Notre Dame battle with University of Southern California.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
While there may still be leftovers in the fridge, it’s time to get ready for the next holiday celebration. Although, it appears that someone might have had too much turkey. Marco Andretti seems to be lagging a bit.
What comes after Christmas?
New Year’s? Well, yes. But Conor Daly is a bit more excited about another winter classic that follows. Just hoping he doesn’t think hearing “chili” means there is food involved.
