Simon Pagenaud and Mike Conway

Scott Dixon knows a strong weekend at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Speedway at Reliant Park will help his chances in chasing down IZOD IndyCar Series championship points leader Helio Castroneves.

The Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston doubleheader Oct. 5-6 on the 1.683-mile, 10-turn temporary street circuit features full points in both 90-lap races. It's also a chance to a driver to claim $50,000 for earning the  SONAX Perfect Finish Award with a Houston.

Dixon, who trails Castroneves by 49 points heading into the races, has been the top performer of all drivers who have competed in the doubleheader events at Belle Isle and Toronto with top-five finishes in each race.

He received a $100,000 SONAX Perfect Finish Award at Toronto, which was part of a three-race winning streak in July that saw him vault from seventh in the championship to second. In June, Dixon recorded a pair of fourth-place finishes at Belle Isle. He has an average finish of 2.5 on doubleheader weekends.

Race 1 at Houston will include the second standing start in series history (Dixon starting from the pole at Toronto Race 2 in the initial standing start).

NBC Sports Network will broadcast both races -- at 3 p.m. (ET) Oct. 5 and 1 p.m. (ET) Oct. 6.
