Conor Daly

NTT INDYCAR SERIES veteran Conor Daly will substitute for Simon Pagenaud with Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) at the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend doubleheader July 22-23 at Iowa Speedway.

Daly will drive the No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda for the second time this season, as he placed 20th after starting 27th in The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Presented by the 2003 Accord Hybrid on Sunday, July 2. Daly’s second drive with MSR was made necessary Tuesday after the series’ medical staff did not clear Pagenaud to compete this weekend as the Frenchman continues his recovery from the effects of a dramatic, barrel-rolling crash July 1 in practice at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

“I’m thankful to (co-owners) Mike (Shank) and Jim (Meyer) for calling me up to fill in for Simon again this weekend in Iowa,” Daly said. “Obviously, I’m wishing him the best and hope that he gets well soon. Iowa has definitely become one of my favorite tracks in the last couple of years. I have qualified really well there – qualified on the pole and started in the top three the last two years. Hopefully we can replicate that qualifying performance but also deliver in the race.

“The team does an incredible job to prepare the car, so we’re going to do our best for Simon again. We’ll do everything we can to score some more points for the team, and I’m thankful to drive this No. 60 car again for AutoNation and SiriusXM.”

One of the highlights of Daly’s career came at the .894-mile oval. He won his sole NTT P1 Award for the first race of the Iowa doubleheader in 2020 at the “Fastest Short Track on the Planet,” driving for Carlin. He drove to an eighth-place finish in that race, his best result in seven career starts at Iowa.

Indiana native Daly also qualified third for both races of the Iowa doubleheader last season with Ed Carpenter Racing.

Daly, 31, drove in the first seven races of this season for Ed Carpenter Racing, with a best finish of eighth in the 107th Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge on May 28. He once again will be paired with MSR full-time driver and four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves in the team’s lineup this weekend.

The season’s only doubleheader begins with the Hy-Vee Homefront 250 presented by Instacart at 3 p.m. ET Saturday, followed by the Hy-Vee One Step 250 presented by Gatorade at 2 p.m. ET Sunday. Both races will air live on NBC, Peacock and the INDYCAR Radio Network.
