Alex Zanardi's thrilling win in the 1998 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is this week's Classic Rewind.

The 1998 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach is your pick for this week’s Classic Rewind. The third round of the 1998 season was held on April 5th and has been described as one of the most exciting races held on the streets of Long Beach, Calif.

After leaders Bryan Herta and Dario Franchitti had late pit stops for fuel. They found themselves nose-to-tail with a slim lead over Alex Zanardi, who was a lap down at early in the race but was charging through the field with fresher tires.

Zanardi slipped past Franchitti, then outbraked polesitter Herta into Turn 3 with two laps to go, and went on to win the race for the second-straight season.
