Norman Pagenaud

INDYCAR's "Fast Six" is a report derived from all things found online about Verizon IndyCar Series racing, its drivers and people. We seek and find pics and quips as INDYCAR drivers live their extraordinary lives and put the evidence on Twitter, Instagram and more. Check back regularly when we post the latest.

Simon goes to the ESPYS

Verizon IndyCar Series Champ Simon Pagenaud is up for an ESPY July 12. So, Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves and Pagenaud’s lovable Jack Russell Terrier are working to get out the vote. Speaking of, you, too, can cast a ballot: http://www.espn.com/espys/story/_/page/voting22/best-driver.

Castroneves dusted off his lucky yellow suit (worn the day in 2007 when he won “Dancing with the Stars” with partner Julianne Hough) for a video encouraging ESPY votes for Simon.

Norman, Simon’s celebrity pooch, was stumping for votes at Road America last weekend and got some press from USA Today: http://sports.usatoday.com/2017/06/25/simon-pagenauds-dog-campaigns-for-espy-award/.

Country roads

The whole INDYCAR community seems to love racing at Road America, but Josef Newgarden had an extra good weekend, finishing a close second to Scott Dixon, winner of the KOHLER Grand Prix. We can almost hear Newgarden whistling a John Denver tune from his car.

Touchdown pass, INDYCAR-style

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Hundley didn’t know much about Indy car racing when he showed up at Road America for his ride in the two-seat race car with Mario Andretti. But Australian Will Power, who didn’t know much about the Packers, spent a few hours with Hundley. Afterward, their respective social media feeds showed new understanding and more: an amazing throw into a moving pace car from Hundley, who returned for the race on Sunday with his camera.

Cheers, darling

Dixon’s British wife, Emma, was traveling in Europe when he won the KOHLER Grand Prix, so she celebrated from afar and tweeted the happy video:

Just in time

Mikhail Aleshin ran into travel trouble after racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France and barely made it to Elkhart Lake for the KOHLER Grand Prix. The adventure was probably nerve-racking, but it created fun posts.
