Josef Newgarden

INDYCAR's "Fast Six" is a report derived from all things found online about Verizon IndyCar Series racing, its drivers and people. We seek and find pics and quips as INDYCAR drivers live their extraordinary lives and put the evidence into tweets, Instagrams and more. Check back regularly when we post the latest.

Old racers never die …

Racing legends Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt aren’t known for their congenial relationship, but when Foyt turned 82 this week, Andretti took the opportunity to wish him well and highlight their on- and off-track passions. Cheers!

Tony Stewart didn’t miss the opportunity to pay respect to Foyt, either.

Revving the month of May with a soiree

Tweets about the month of May at Indianapolis Motor Speedway are sure to get a few dozen retweets. So, this week, when Rev – the 3,000-person strolling dining party for charity that kicks off the Month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – announced that Josef Newgarden will be the May 6 event’s honorary chair, social media was buzzing.

We think this video Newgarden made with Milktooth restaurant chef Jonathan Brooks and his “Newgarden Nachos” is darling.

Then there’s the one that leaves us expecting big things from Newgarden this season because he sure knows how to spray champagne.

Held for ransom

Meanwhile, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Alexander Rossi got another chance to celebrate his Indianapolis 500 win when he received his Baby Borg, a small replica of the Borg-Warner Trophy that now bears his likeness. Twitter fun ensued when Britni Allen, Andretti Autosport’s communications manager, traveled home with it.

January in Paris

Before heading back to the United States to prepare for the 2017 racing season, which begins March 12 with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Verizon IndyCar Series champ Simon Pagenaud had a final glass of wine in Europe and tweeted about it.

Bye bye, baby

Drivers traveled to Indianapolis this week for media day and meetings about the upcoming season. That meant new dad Will Power left baby Beau and wife Liz for a few days. He must have had all the feels when he snapped these:

American dreams

Meanwhile, Conor Daly’s mom, Beth Boles, must have been thinking about her son’s sleep schedule when she found a pillow fit for American racing royalty.
