GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma warm-up results

SONOMA, Calif. -- Reigning Verizon IndyCar Series champion Will Power recorded the quickest lap of 1 minute, 17.8107 seconds in the 30-minute morning warm-up for the Verizon IndyCar Series championship-deciding GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma on the 2.385-mile, 12-turn Sonoma Raceway road course.

Power, driving the No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, is among the six contenders for the title. Power, who has won three times in the past five years at Sonoma Raceway, shattered his year-old track record in qualifying Aug. 29 on his way to earning the Verizon P1 Award for the 85-lap race.

Takuma Sato, driving the No. 14 ABC Supply AJ Foyt Racing Honda, was second quick (1:17.9668) and Simon Pagenaud was third (1:18.1144) in the No. 22 Avaya Team Penske Chevrolet.

Juan Pablo Montoya, who has stood atop the championship standings since winning the season opener March 29 on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., was ninth quick in the session. Montoya will start fifth in the No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet.
