Wilson, like members of the original Rolling Stones, is from Britain. On the same day that The Rolling Stones’ 15-city North American tour kicks off in San Diego, more than 300,000 race fans at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and millions watching the Indy 500 on TV worldwide. The ZIP CODE tour hits Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a July 4 concert.

“For the biggest race of the year, to have one of the biggest rock bands in history is just incredible," Wilson said. "Listening to the Rolling Stones was a Sunday tradition in our house. We would wake up and my dad would have the music on full blast."

Pagenaud seeks to end French dry spell

Team Penske's Simon Pagenaud is the first driver from France to start on the front row of the Indy 500 since 1919 (Rene Thomas) and could be the first French winner since 1920 (Gaston Chevrolet).

"I would be so happy to win for my country. It would be fantastic for the sport and for IndyCar in Europe, in France," he said.

There have been 27 victories among 20 drivers born in 10 countries other than the United States.

First time back since 1969

Longtime ABC Sports broadcaster and Sirius/XM radio show host Jack Arute attended the Indianapolis 500 for the first time in 1969 with his father. The Turn 1 seats were "the best," Arute says, and he remembers his father saying, "You've seen the beginning of an era today," when Mario Andretti won the race.

Until this weekend, Arute hasn't watched the 500 Mile Race from the family's longtime seats. He'll be accompanied by his 16-year-old grandson.

He said it

Said Chip Ganassi Racing Teams owner Chip Ganassi, referring to fellow Verizon IndyCar Series team owner Roger Penske: "If he wins the Indy 500 this year, he'll be the second guy in the club to win Daytona and Indy in the same year."

Ganassi won both races in 2010 (Dario Franchitti in the Indy 500 and Jamie McMurray in the Daytona 500).

He said it II: Larson in the '500'?

Ganassi on whether he will allow NASCAR driver Kyle Larson to drive in the Indianapolis 500: “You never know. We talk about it all the time. I was just talking to him about it yesterday. Yes, he is (eager). We haven’t said no to him. We haven’t said yes, either.”
