Helio Castroneves

Helio Castroneves is accustomed to performing on camera, and on March 31 the three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Shannon Sailes, the “Dancing Usher,” entertained fans on the Detroit Pistons’ “Dance Cam.”

The duo instigated the skit during a second-quarter timeout that even caught the attention of players at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

“Doing the dance with Shannon was a blast. He is a really good dancer and I like his moves," Castroneves said. "I’m glad he wasn’t on 'Dancing With the Stars' when I was there. I have hung up my dancing shoes these days but I was able to bring out a few moves to keep it interesting.”

The duo received a standing ovation following the brief performance.

“This is just awesome. I feel like I’m home,” said the Season 5 “Dancing With the Stars” champion. “To get the opportunity to connect with fans and the players, that’s great.”

Castroneves, who finished fourth in the Verizon IndyCar Series’ season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, attended the game to promote the Chevrolet Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans on May 30-31. He won the back end of the doubleheader on the Belle Isle course last year.

"Detroit is like another home for me ever since I got my first Indy car win (2000) there and it was the place where I first climbed the fence," Castroneves said. "Belle Isle has been a great track for me over the years and I really just love the fans in Detroit. We had a great win here last year and hopefully we can keep it going with two wins on Belle Isle at the end of May in the Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet.”

Fans also had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the Borg-Warner Trophy, which received a big hug from Castroneves. GET RACE WEEKEND TICKETS, INFO
