Neil Alberico

Neil Alberico opened the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires with decisive victories in the Allied Building Products Grand Prix of St. Petersburg doubleheader.

“This is a great way to start the season, for me and for the team," said Alberico, 22, of Los Gatos, Calif., driving a Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing car. "We had two Cape cars on the podium both days. Now we’re looking forward to NOLA in two weeks."

In Race 1, teammate Daniel Burkett finished third and Florian Latorre placed third in the second race.

Team owners Dominic and Nicholas Cape operate the team out of St. Petersburg, Fla., and their "home" race weekend was productive across Pro Mazda and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda.

Aaron Telitz and Nico Jamin finished second and third, respectively, in both USF2000 races behind Pabst Racing’s Jake Eidson.

“You talk about having weekends like this, but to actually have one is definitely easier said than done," said Eidson, 19, of Littleton, Colo. "Everyone at Pabst Racing has worked so hard, especially since Winterfest. We weren’t sure what kind of results we were going to have. Obviously, we were aiming for the win but to actually execute it is a relief."

Pabst Racing team owner Augie Pabst said that Eidson is poised to make a run at the USF2000 title.

“There is no doubt the potential is there and together with Jake's talent, I believe it is very possible,”  he said.
