Will Power

A record-tying 11 different winners and 10 different Verizon P1 Award recipients underscored the competitiveness of the Verizon IndyCar Series season on the most diverse schedule in motorsports.

Short ovals (Milwaukee Mile and Iowa Speedway), speedways (Texas Motor Speedway) and superspeedways (Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Pocono Raceway and Auto Club Speedway) complement the road courses (Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Barber Motorsports Park, Sonoma Raceway and Indianapolis) and street circuits (St. Petersburg, Long Beach, Detroit, Toronto and Houston). Extending the challenge were doubleheader weekends at Detroit, Toronto and Houston.

“It’s great. You go to Pocono and you’re racing 230 mph and then you go to Iowa and it’s a different level and then go to a slipper course like Toronto," said 2013 series champion Scott Dixon, who won twice this season. "They’re different extremes. It keeps you on your toes. You have to go with an open mind."

Among the season leaders were series champion Will Power (completing 2,394 of the 2,395 laps), races led (11), laps led (623) and Verizon P1 Awards (four). He also was tops with 15 top-10 finishes. Ryan Briscoe and Power were the only drivers to be running at the finish in all 18 races. Dixon had the most top-five finishes (11). Fifteen drivers led at least four races.
