FONTANA, Calif. – Touring Auto Club Speedway at 180-plus mph in the Indy Racing Experience two-seater, Sarah Fisher said the speed, power of the engine and the car’s handling brought back fond memories of competition.

The Verizon IndyCar Series team owner was a guest driver for the session Aug. 27 on the 2-mile oval. Fisher gave birth to her second child, Daniel, with husband Andy O’Gara on June 12.

“I’m having fun. I haven’t been in a car since 2010 because I’ve been pregnant for four years straight, so fitting in the seat was interesting,” she said. “They had me drive the two-seater in 2006 for most of the year before I started back in IndyCar after going over the West Series.

“I sat in the car and the first time I left pit lane it felt like being home again.”

Fisher, who turns 34 on Oct. 4, formed Sarah Fisher Racing in 2008 and made her first race start as a team owner/driver in the Indianapolis 500 that May. She competed in 83 IndyCar Series events, the last on the Homestead-Miami Speedway oval on Oct. 10, 2010.

Welterweight boxer Victor Ortiz was among her passengers before the Verizon IndyCar Series drivers took to the oval for an Open Test in preparation for the championship-deciding MAVTV 500 on Aug. 30.

“It’s neat to be out here and I love to meet people who love the sport,” Fisher said.
