Victor Carbone

At the start of the season, Carlos Munoz was the only driver with a Firestone Indy Lights win under his belt. A new addition to the field at Barber Motorsports Park adds a little more experience to the field, in the form of 20-year-old Brazilian Victor Carbone.

Carbone joins Team Moore Racing in the No. 22 TMR entry as teammate to Juan Pablo Garcia for the remainder of the season. The former F2000 Championship title-winner is entering his third Firestone Indy Lights season, spending two years with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.

“I am very happy to be a part of Team Moore and I am looking forward to what this year will bring me,” Carbone said. “I am excited to work with all the team and achieve the best results we can together.”

Carbone’s two previous seasons netted him two sixth place championship finishes, a race win, two poles and three podium finishes. The Sao Paulo-native resides in Miami, Fla., where he attends classes at Florida International University to keep his mind occupied during the offseason.

Team Moore Racing comes off of a great weekend in St. Petersburg with Garcia, who recorded a career-best fourth place finish in the race eventually won by rookie Jack Hawksworth. Team owner Mark Moore feels that adding a former winner to the team will be a good fit for the team that won two races in 2012.

“The team and I are really excited to have Victor step in to drive the 22,” Moore said. “He is a fine young man. I have had my eye on him the past few seasons and I believe he has huge potential and lots of talent. I can’t wait to see how he does in one our cars.

“I believe he and Juan Pablo will be excellent teammates and work very well together. It’s great for our series to get another contender back out on the track.”

The Firestone Indy Lights Legacy 100 will air on NBC Sports Network at 2 p.m. ET, immediately preceding the IZOD IndyCar Series race. You can follow Victor Carbone on Twitter at @VictorCarbone13 and on Facebook.
